What Is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a free artificial intelligence (AI) tool using machine learning to generate conversational text responses to questions. Answers can be long or short, covering just about anything you can ask about. 

ChatGPT was developed through OpenAI, a company funded by Silicon Valley investors. OpenAI includes several other tools focusing on furthering the research and development of AI products for the overall benefit of humanity, according to its mission statement

ChatGPT is revolutionary in that it can make the lives of humans easier. As with many drastic disruptions in the workplace, there are ways copywriters, website developers and marketing teams can find ChatGPT to be a friend, not a foe.

Below are seven uses for Chat GPT that can work for your marketing teams or strategy.

1. Generate Outlines for Blog Posts

Let’s say you’re a manufacturer of coating products. You go to the ChatGPT app and submit the query “Act like a marketing manager and write an article outline about the different manufacturing processes for acrylic paint.” In return, you’ll be greeted with an outline you can use to help organize your thoughts and refresh your brain with what is essentially an outside perspective.

2. Get Over Writer’s Block

If you’re like most humans, you may find yourself staring at a blank page (or screen) wondering how to write or even start a blog post. Uses for ChatGPT include a way to leap over writer’s block. Ask ChatGPT how it would write an article about a specific topic. You can then weave your thoughts into the ideas that ChatGPT brings to the table. Here’s where we highlight the fact that, in order to get quality writing that appeals to readers, editing and revising the content produced by the bot is critical at this point in the AI’s capabilities. 

3. Write Titles for Talks and Submit to Local Events

In 2023, one of the top marketing tactics we are recommending is selecting an industry focus and looking for trade shows or community events where you can share your expertise with a talk. For example, at BigOrange, our ideal target audience is manufacturing firms and MSP / IT service providers. Therefore we would like to find regional manufacturing or MSP events where we could speak. Using AI to streamline this outreach includes these steps:

  • Use ChatGPT to generate a list of regional manufacturing events  where we could submit talks and speak.

  • Next use ChatGPT to write 10 engaging titles for each of those three to four talk ideas.
  • Ask Chat GPT to write the summary and hook sentences for the talk. It seems to struggle with writing the short and sweet bullets of “here’s what you will learn” so you will want to write the three to five things attendees will learn and take away.
  • Use ChatGPT to clean up your bio for submissions.
  • Submit your talks!

4. Generate Blog Article Ideas

Try typing in “What are the top 10 most frequently asked questions about X?” You’ll have a list in moments. This has the potential to help marketers come up with relevant, creative ideas even without the expertise and background that your clients and their employees could have. 

5. Write Social Media Copy

Like in this Linkedin post, marketers are finding uses for ChatGPT. Creating headlines for social media posts and helping them find ideas for ways to attract the attention of their target audience. It’s important to point out, the idea here is not to copy and paste. Instead, use ChatGPT as a guide, refining the post to create a great guide to garnering attention. 

6. Leverage SEO in Seconds

ChatGPT can help you achieve your search engine optimization (SEO) goals easily, helping you research keywords, listing those keywords and even translating them if you are marketing in multiple languages. You can also include prompts to create alternative titles and meta descriptions for posts.

7. Instantaneous Research

Perhaps the ultimate reason to be excited about ChatGPT is the potential of time saved by doing market research. In this Linkedin Post, Andy Gray writes how he saved 60 minutes research time by using the tool. Uses for ChapGPT here include gathering information from top brands’ sites and social media accounts. Compiling this information can give you a cheatsheet of your competitors’ marketing efforts and insight on their followers without breaking a sweat.
