What Is StoryBrand?
StoryBrand is a proven marketing framework developed by Donald Miller. This framework helps organizations clarify their message so customers are more likely to engage and take action. It’s built upon seven core principles of storytelling. The seven principles position your customer as the hero and your business as a guide leading them toward success.
The seven key principles of StoryBrand include:
- A character: Your customer is the hero of this story, not your organization.
- The character has a problem: What is the real challenge(s) your customer faces?
- The character meets a guide: This is your cue! Your business provides the solution to the problem.
- A plan is presented: You give them a clear path to solve their problems.
- The character is called to action: Then with a little nudge (aka a call to action) you compel them to take that next step.
- The action helps them avoid failure: What’s the consequence if they don’t follow your guidance?
- The story ends in success: Paint a picture of the transformation they’ll experience when they solve their problems.
Every story you know fits into this framework. Let’s use Harry Potter as an example. Now we know the character, Harry, but what’s his problem? He Who Shall Not Be Named is after him and the wizarding world. So he meets a guide, Dumbledore, at Hogwarts. Dumbledore gives him a plan: destroy the seven Horcruxes. Dumbledore then takes him to find one, calling him to greater action. Fail and the Death Eaters take over, win and see the wizarding world free of evil. Give it a try with your favorite story.
You can learn how these seven principles can work for your brand’s story at our talk at Kaseya + Datto Connect Local in Columbus.
How Your MSP Can Benefit From StoryBrand
Here’s how the seven principles and StoryBrand’s framework can help your MSP:
- Clear messaging: the steps laid out in the framework help you simplify your marketing message. This is great for reaching potential clients because they’ll instantly understand what you offer and why they need it.
- Stronger customer engagement: Storytelling helps create emotional connections and makes your business more relatable and trustworthy.
- More conversions and sales: A clear, compelling message leads to better customer responses and increased revenue.
